ACTION ALERT UPDATE:

Anderson Creek OHV Area closed permanently

We worked together to get it done!

Illegal ATV activity in Anderson Creek OHV Area. Photo by David Govus. The U.S. Forest Service announced that it has decided to permanently close the Anderson Creek Off-Highway Vehicle Area after five years of analysis and public comment periods.

This is great news! The decision culminates a decade-long campaign by Georgia ForestWatch and our many partners to end the damage that off-road vehicles were causing in this sensitive area (one of north Georgia's traditional trout streams and hunting areas).

Thank you to the many volunteers & staff who assisted with this effort.  Thank you to everyone who responded to our action alerts.  Our voices together spoke loud and clear: Over 80% of all public comments received by the Forest Service were in favor of permanent closure.  Thank you to Ranger Alan Polk and his staff for professional analysis and deciding to protect these important streams from further damage.

Georgia ForestWatch stands ready to assist the Forest Service in supporting this decision.

Please help us thank the Forest Service:

If you'd like to help us thank key folks at the U.S. Forest Service, call, e-mail, or phone Ranger Alan Polk & Supervisor George Bain.  Thank them for this decision.
