The U.S. Forest Service needs your help to take advantage of the Land & Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) -- one of the best ways for increasing the base of national forestland.
The agency, working with land conservation partners and willing property owners have identified and secured agreements for key parcels.
Now we need Senators Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson to submit request letters of support through senate appropriations in order to garner LWCF funding. Georgia received no funding from LWCF in 06, 08 or 2009. We must show support by May 8, 2009 for our senators to request these funds.
Where to send your comments:
Ideally, for this issue comments should be FAXED.
Send "ATTN: Interior Appropriations Staff"
Senator Chambliss Fax 202-224-0103
Senator Isakson Fax 202-228-0724
For those of you without access to fax machines, please e-mail or call:
What to say:
Write a letter in your own words saying:
- You support LWCF funding for Georgia
- You support conservation of important land and water resources
- Ask the senators to request $5 million in LWCF funding for Georgia
- With the current economic situation, there's no better time to purchase key forest tracts from willing sellers
- National forestlands provide high quality recreational opportunities and protect state biodiversity
Want to go above & beyond?
If you have a few extra minutes, send a letter thanking Representative Jim Marshall for his support of $5 million of LWCF funds for Georgia.
