Help
secure $3 million to buy key Georgia forests!
|
BREAKING NEWS - PLEASE CALL KEY STAFFERS BY APRIL 30th!
Congress is developing its 2011 budget at this
time, including Land and Water Conservation Fund dollars proposed for purchasing conservation land in Georgia. We need your help to secure these funds!
The Problem: The Land and Water Conservation Fund dollars
are very limited, and the appropriation process is competitive. Senators and
Congressmen compete to bring these dollars to their states.
Send a message to Senators Isakson and Chambliss that Georgia voters are
concerned about land conservation and want them to bring Georgia a fair share
of federal Land and Water Conservation Fund dollars to our state to purchase
and protect important conservation lands.
Action Needed: Email or call Georgia's Senators today asking them to support Land and
Water Conservation Funds for the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests and the
Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. Note: be sure and thank Senator
Chambliss for his prior request for 3 million conservation dollars. This is a
significant amount above the 1.7 million proposed by the Obama administration
for our national forests.

New to this issue? Here's more info: The Federal Budget for 2011 is being developed right now and the Senate
can include funding for both the United States Forest Service and National Park
Service projects in our state. The President's budget includes 3.5 million dollars for the National Park
Service to purchase land along the Chattahoochee
River below Buford Dam, as well as 1.7
million dollars for Georgia
National Forests to
purchase key in-holdings and cold-water habitat. The funding for Georgia National Forests needs to be increased
to 3 million dollars to accomplish the job.
Land and Water Conservation Fund dollars are used by Federal Natural Resource
agencies to purchase conservation lands. This is how the Chattahoochee
River Park
was acquired and how important National Forest lands that protect the
Appalachian Trail and the Chattooga Wild and Scenic River
were acquired. These dollars only come to Georgia if our Senators and
Congressmen include them in the budget process. This is happening now, and they
need to hear that you want these dollars to come to Georgia.
These dollars are not generated from tax
revenue! They come from funding generated from federal off shore oil leases
and are considered conservation mitigation funds. These dollars will go to
another state if we don't request our fair share. Click HERE for more information
Thank you for taking action on behalf of our public lands!
