Art and Nature Hike along the Coleman River Trail

Come join us for a special winter experience along one of the most beautiful trails in Rabun County.  Bring along your sketch pad, water colors or camera.  The woods in winter are dramatic and speak to the artist soul.  Add to that, beautiful cascading water and the quiet clear pools of a mountain river, and you have the perfect place in which to explore your creativity.  Of course, you don't have to be an artist to participate in this hike.  Just come along for the beautiful views!
This is an easy hike that will take us one mile on a slightly uphill path.  At the turnaround point we will spend time sketching, painting, taking photographs and having lunch.  After lunch we will share an informal exchange of our creative endeavors.  If you choose to create art, this trail is a wonderful spot in which to relax and listen to the river.

Leader:

Brenda Smith

Meeting Time, Place, and Directions:
We will meet at 10:00am at the junction of 76 West and Persimmon Road. From Clayton Georgia, turn west onto highway 76.  Highway 76 goes directly through town, and you will know you are on the right track as you pass the library and Clayton City Hall on your left.  Drive 7.7 miles until you see Persimmon Road on your right.  When you turn onto Persimmon Road, you will see a fire station on your right.  There is a dead end road across from the fire station where we will park and carpool to the trail head.

Outing Location:

Coleman River Trail, Rabun County

USGS Quadrangle:

Hightower Bald

Distance and Difficulty:  This hike is easy to moderate with some uphill and narrow rocky places on the trail.  It is 2 miles round trip.

What to Bring and Wear:
Lunch, water, rain gear if showers are expected, appropriate clothing and footwear, walking stick if needed.  If you are allergic to bees/wasps, remember your meds/epi-pen. Since it can be windy and much colder at higher elevations, be prepared!  Don't forget your sketch pads, paints, and cameras.

Participant Limit:

15 participants and No Dogs Please

Family Safety Policy:
Outings are smoke, alcohol, and drug free.

Pet Policy:
