Rather than walking to the visitor's center on the mountaintop, we'll hike down an abandoned roadbed which has been converted into a hiking trail. We'll walk about 2 miles down the Wagon Train Trail towards Young Harris College and return by the same route. The entire walk will be above 4,000 ft elevation where the cool, moist, northern aspect of Georgia's highest mountain harbors flora uncommon in Georgia such as American mountain ash, minnie bush, yellow birch, pin cherry, and mountain maple.
