Welcome to the new & improved ForestWatch Alerts! 

Outreach DirectorWe're excited to announce our new Alerts system.  Unfortunately, there was no easy way to switchover from the old system - if you've received this e-mail in error we apologize.  Georgia ForestWatch does not wish to spam anyone - please reply and let me know if you do not wish to receive Alerts.  
 
We're very excited about this new system.  With our new e-mail forwarding feature, it's easier than ever to share Alerts with your friends.  Also found at the bottom of each Alert is a link to unsubscribe or update your e-mail address.

Chattooga River Hike with Poetry
Sign up today - this one will fill up fast!

Hikers in a hemlock forestJoin us for a lovely and dramatic hike on the Chattooga River Trail from Sandy Ford down to the river.  We'll start along the lip of the Chattooga gorge running through 3 different forests.  The Chattooga drops down to Second Ledge, one of the river's most exciting cascades.  We'll hike down to the river and have lunch and a poetry reading by Laurence Holden, poet laureate of Rabun County.  Details below.

Date of outing:
  Saturday, October 24, 2009
 
Meeting time, place and directions:
10:00am at the north end of Ingles parking lot on Highway 441 in Clayton, Georgia.

Leaders:
Brooks Franklin & Mo Keating
Laurence Holden, Poet

Outing location:
Chattooga River Trail in Rabun county in the northeast corner of Georgia, Chattahoochee National Forest.

Distance & Difficulty:  5-mile out & back.  Moderate.

Bring:
Lunch, water, rain gear, walking staff if needed, and appropriate clothing and footwear. Camera if desired. (Allergic to bees/wasps? Remember your meds/epi-pen)

Limit:  30, divided into 2 hiking groups

Rain Date:  This hike will take place rain or shine.

Pet Policy:
Thank you for not bringing your pet friends on Georgia ForestWatch outings.

Family Safe Policy:
Outings are a smoke, alcohol, and drug free setting, thanks.
