Are you up for a hike that will be leisurely but challenging?
The trail between Chimney Gap and War Woman Dell in lovely Rabun County has several uphill climbs, but the scenery is so spectacular that you will hardly notice the inclines as we head to Martin Falls. After visiting the falls, we will follow Martin's Creek a short distance to where it slows down to a lovely cascade and pool suitable for splashing and cooling off after we enjoy a shared picnic. We will take our time as we hike on to Becky Falls before finishing the hike at our starting point at War Woman Dell. Please allow at least four hours for this hike since we are going to picnic along the way. We will provide plates, napkins, plastic spoons and forks along with a table cloth. Please pack a simple dish to share with the group as we picnic together and talk about National Great Outdoors Week and our treasured roadless areas.
Meeting Time, Place, and Directions:
We will meet at 9:30 am at War Woman Dell in Rabun County. To reach the Dell, follow 441 through Clayton until you see the Wendy's and Burger King Billboards. There will be a sign that says: War Woman Dell Picnic Area. Traveling north, the road and sign will be on your right. Follow War Woman Road approx. 3 miles until you see the sign for the dell on your right. (Be cautious as you turn into and pull out of the parking area because of the sharp drop off). Please park in the lot closest to War Woman Road. We will car pool to the trail head at Chimney Gap, and if anyone has a van or a vehicle that will seat several people, we would appreciate your help in getting everyone to the starting point of the hike, which is only a short drive.
