Hike a maintained trail on a high elevation ridge in an area that has benefited from wilderness designation for almost a quarter of a century. You can expect to see mountain maple, fire cherry, Catawba rhododendron, American mountain ash, sunburst lichen, rock harlequin, columbo, and maybe even a raven or a ruffed grouse!
Date of Outing: Saturday, November 13, 2010Meeting Time, Place, and Directions:
Meet at 10:00 am at Trackrock Gap. From US Hwy 19 & 129, north of Vogel State Park, turn east onto GA Hwy 180 towards Brasstown Bald and go approximately 2½ miles. Turn left onto Town Creek School Rd and go about 5¼ miles. Turn right onto Trackrock Gap Rd and go approximately 4 miles to the small parking area on the left. From here we'll shuttle to the parking lot on Brasstown Bald where a fee is charged.

Distance and Difficulty:
This is a moderate to strenuous hike with about a 2,500 net elevation loss, and will cover 5 1/2 to 6 miles.
Limit: 10
Bring: Lunch, lots of water, rain gear, and appropriate clothing and footwear, hiking poles, camera or binoculars, etc. (Allergic to bees/wasps? Remember your meds/epi-pen)
