OUR VISION
Committed to protecting our National Forests
The members of Georgia ForestWatch share as their vision the protection and appreciation of the national forests in Georgia and the watersheds, native plants and wildlife they encompass.
Our Mission
Our mission is to promote management that leads to naturally self-sustaining forests and watersheds within the more than 850,000 acres of national forest lands in Georgia; to engage and educate the public to join in this effort; and to promote preservation of this legacy for future generations.
Key Strategies
- Monitor compliance with all laws and rules guiding the management of the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests.
- Engage the public in this monitoring by outreach, outings, volunteer opportunities, education, scientific research and citizen advocacy.
- Educate the public about the unique natural values and cultural heritage of these national forestlands and watersheds.
- Promote sustainable diversity and growth in these forestlands by allowing natural ecological processes to proceed unimpeded.
- Increase national forest acreage under protection from human encroachment, especially wilderness, scenic and roadless areas, old-growth stands and other areas of special ecological significance.
- Promote the use of objective monitoring and science-based principles in forest management while protecting soil fertility and air and water quality.
- Support responsible and equitable, low-impact recreational use of our forests.
- Increase net acreage of the Chattahoochee-National Forests from willing sellers.
